Rekha Gupta was born on July 19, 1974, in Julana, Haryana. She relocated to Delhi with her family in 1976. Her academic journey includes attending Daulat Ram College under Delhi University and later obtaining a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from IMIRC College of Law Bhaina in Ghaziabad, affiliated with Chaudhary Charan Singh University Meerut in 2022.

Political Journey

Gupta’s foray into politics began in 1992 when she joined the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) while studying at university. Her exceptional leadership qualities emerged early on, culminating in her election as President of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) for the term spanning 1996-97. This role enabled her to tackle student-related issues effectively and paved her way into active political engagement.

In 2007, she furthered her political ambitions by securing election as a councillor representing North Pitampura. During this period, Gupta concentrated on improving public services; initiatives included enhancing libraries, parks, and swimming pools within her constituency.

Her commitment to community welfare led to consecutive re-election in 2012 when she took over as Mayor of South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC). As mayor, she introduced “Sumedha Yojana,” aimed at assisting economically challenged female students aspiring for higher education.

Throughout her career journey thus far, Gupta has consistently championed women’s empowerment initiatives. Within BJP’s structures, she has embraced critical roles including General Secretary of the Delhi BJP Mahila Morcha along with membership on its National Executive Committee.
