Latest India News – On his 50th visit to his Lok Sabha constituency, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a series of transformative development initiatives in Varanasi, aimed at elevating the city’s status as a leading economic hub in eastern Uttar Pradesh. With an investment worth over ₹3,880 crore, the projects are set to further propel the region’s growth, combining modern infrastructure with a rich cultural heritage.
In a public gathering held on April 11, 2025, PM Modi outlined the monumental changes Varanasi has undergone since 2014. The Prime Minister remarked that the city, while retaining its spiritual legacy, has embraced modernization, becoming a beacon of both progress and tradition. “Today, Varanasi is not just a symbol of antiquity but also a major driver of development for the entire Purvanchal region,” Narendra Modi stated.
Varanasi: A Modern Hub of Economic Growth
Among the key initiatives launched, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for over 130 drinking water schemes, 100 new Anganwadi centers, 356 rural libraries, and a polytechnic college in Pindra. These efforts are part of a broader plan to improve infrastructure, education, healthcare, and connectivity in Varanasi and surrounding areas.
“These development projects will lay the groundwork for Purvanchal’s transformation into a prosperous, well-developed region,” said the Prime Minister. PM Modi emphasized that these initiatives would not only benefit the local community but would also bring substantial economic opportunities to every family, every young person, and every region within Varanasi and eastern Uttar Pradesh.
A Blend of Heritage and Development
While modernizing, Varanasi continues to hold its position as a spiritual and cultural center. Narendra Modi urged the people to connect Kashi’s ancient soul with its modern identity, asserting that the city is now playing a pivotal role in driving growth for the entire region.
“Varanasi is not just the cultural heart of India, but today, it is also a leading economic hub in Purvanchal,” PM Modi added, showcasing the city’s evolving role in India’s overall development.
Empowering the Elderly and Farmers
During his visit, PM Modi also distributed Ayushman Vay Vandana health cards to senior citizens, offering free medical treatment for those above 70 years old. This initiative has been widely praised for easing the financial burden of healthcare on the elderly, ensuring they do not need to sell land or take loans for medical expenses.
The Prime Minister also transferred ₹106 crore in bonus payments to livestock farmers affiliated with Banas Dairy, recognizing their contributions to the region’s economic growth and empowerment of local women.
