Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Kerala-born rapper Sooraj Cherukat, also known as Hanumankind. For showcasing India’s traditional culture through his new song, “Run It Up.”
In the 120th episode of his monthly radio show Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi commented on how the song features India’s traditional martial arts and draws attention to them worldwide.
PM Modi’s Praise
In the speech, PM Modi said, “Our traditional games are getting visibility in pop culture today. These days, the new song of popular rapper Hanumankind, ‘Run It Up,’ is gaining huge popularity. In this song, our traditional arts of martial arts, like Kalaripayattu, Gatka, Thang-Ta, etc., are included.”
He also stated, “I convey my gratitude to Hanumankind for making the world learn about our traditional martial arts.”
About Hanumankind
Sooraj Cherukat, professionally known as Hanumankind, is a rapper, singer, songwriter, and actor from Kerala. He was born in 1992 Malappuram and spent his early years in Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Egypt, Qatar, Italy, and the US.
Cherukat started his professional rap career by performing at the NH7 Weekender and released his first EP, “Kalari,” in 2019.
He achieved a high level of recognition after he released his single “Big Dawgs” in July 2024, which has a music video filmed in his local district of Malappuram.
