Kejriwal Sounds Alarm: ‘Pressing Kamal Ka Button Will Plunge Delhi Into Darkness!’

New Delhi, January 21, 2025 — Ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections due on February 5, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal has advised voters to beware of the fact that they may face recurrent power outages in case the BJP takes charge of the capital.

While addressing another rally in the Adarsh Nagar seat, Kejriwal concerned himself with the electricity supply system in Delhi and its pricing in comparison with states ruled under BJP regimes.

24 hour power supply under threat

Kejriwal stated that under AAP’s stewardship, the residents of Delhi had enjoyed regularized 24 hours of electricity, a great deviation from the situation present a decade back, when there were frequent six-hour power failures.

He credited this achievement to his party’s rigorous efforts made towards bettering the power supply infrastructure in Delhi, while giving a sarcastic tone to state that not a single unit in the 20 BJP-ruled states provided uninterrupted power supply for even a single day.

“Kamal Ka Button” warning

Kejriwal said that the moment one presses the lotus button, the electricity will be gone before one gets home.

This statement was made using the BJP election symbol, the lotus (‘Kamal’ in Hindi), to underscore his assertion that a vote for the BJP could erase all the gains made in the power sector in Delhi.

Comparative electricity charges

Kejriwal, while comparing this with electrical charges in BJP-ruled Gujarat, stated that a 400-unit bill in Gujarat amounts to a sailing 4,500 rupees (₹4,500).

He advised the people of Delhi against initiatives in support of the BJP; else, they can find themselves in a cup of hot soup wherein the bill per month can be close to or beyond 10,000 rupees.

Definitely a wake-up call for the electorate concerning prices tied to electoral decisions.

Expanding Welfare Programs

Assured of going back on his promise of public welfare, Kejriwal announced a plan to set up three Mohalla Clinics in each ward so that accessible health care is made available for the population across the city.

He cited that people’s concrete benefits remain a priority for his government in comparison with BJP’s policies.

Critique of BJP Campaigning Tactics

Kejriwal slammed the BJP for not having invested enough to bring any change to Delhi over the years.

He condemned BJP leaders when they attacked each other through personal means and superficial interactions, such as spending their nights in the slums or playing with local kids, while neglecting the actual matters concerning the habitats.

He warned the residents, saying: “These are the same people who demolish slums.”

Adarsh Nagar Constituency in Focus

This Adarsh Nagar assembly constituency falling under the Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha has created a battleground.

AAP wrested this seat from the BJP in 2015, and Pawan Kumar Sharma won it again in 2020.

Kejriwal’s rally in favor of candidate Mukesh Goel shows the utmost determination of the party to hold on to its ground in the constituency.

Upcoming Electoral Events

The Delhi Assembly elections are to be held on February 5, while the counting of votes takes place on February 8.

With the election date on the horizon, Kejriwal’s communications are set to remind the voters about the improvements that have occurred under AAP and the dangers awaiting them with policy reversals should there be a change in administration.
