Mumbai, February 10, 2025-While the YouTube show “India’s Got Latent” has been heard under the claims of making objectionable comments against women, Mumbai Police have now set up an inquiry after a complaint was lodged against celebrities involved in the show, namely, Ranveer Allahbadia, stand-up comic Samay Raina, and influencer Apoorva Makhija, along with the producers.
Police Action and Statements
A police team arrived at the show’s Mumbai venue, which was filmed in Khar, to gather evidence into the allegations.
It said the complaint was filed with the Mumbai Commissioner as well as the Maharashtra Women’s Commission, calling for severe prosecution against the accused for inappropriate content.
On the matter, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, “I have come to know of it. I have not yet seen it. Things have been said and presented in a wrong manner.”
He upheld responsible freedom of speech when he added, “Everybody has the right to freedom of speech, but our freedom runs out when we question the freedoms of others. There are a few rules laid down by society, and if somebody tramples upon those rules, that should not be accepted, and action should definitely be taken against him or her.”
Controversial Remarks, Public Apology
The controversy emanated from a query directed by Ranveer Allahbadia at a contestant on the notable episode of “India’s Got Latent.”
A contestant was shocked at Ranveer Allahbadia’s remarks: “Do you want to see your parents having sex every day, or do you want to join them and finish it all at once?” Immediately, reactions were bound to flourish from the fellow panelists, whereby Samay Raina reacted, saying, “What the f***?” while another panelist was left to ask, “Kya ho gaya hai Ranveer bhai ko?”
After being severely criticized by many, powwow guru, Allahbadia, apologized in public: “Many of you asked me if this is how I want to use my platform. Obviously, this is not how I want to use my platform. I am not going into any context, explanation, nor justification of what happened. I am only here to apologize. I personally slipped up. I shouldn’t have done that.”
He further stated, “Family is the last thing I would ever disrespect. I have to better use this platform, and that is my learning from this entire experience. I shall promise to just get better. I have requested the makers of the video to take the insensitive parts out of the video, and all I can say in the end is that I am sorry. I hope you can forgive me as a human being.”

Political and Public Reactions
The incident has met with condemnation from all around. Rekha Sharma, former National Commission for Women (NCW) chief and Rajya Sabha MP, expressed, “The video is very shocking, and I think whether it is a female or a male, such kind of joke is never acceptable to society. Jokes related to mothers or a female’s body do not sound good and somewhere depict how today’s youth have stooped very low morally.”
She added, “I think such jokes affect others who are engaged in similar creative things. I have just forwarded that video to the NCW Chairperson to take action.”
Very aptly, the Shiv Sena spokesperson Raju Wagamare condemned the comments by cautioning producers, “Such words will not be tolerated in Maharashtra, under Shivaji Maharaj’s legacy. They must stop this nonsense immediately, or we will retaliate in our own way.”
