Subsequently, Musk’s stay at DOGE involved extreme austerity measures. Moreover, the reconfiguration of the organization of the federal government.

Musk’s “Extraordinary” Time in DOGE

Evidently, Musk was appointed as a special government employee in DOGE. Purposely, for cutting government inefficiencies and cutting federal spending.

As a matter of fact, his exceedingly ambitious goal was $1 trillion in federal cuts within his time.

Moreover, he pursued significant reductions in federal personnel, the dismantling of agencies, and the elimination of programs. Surprisingly, much to the horror of Democrats and some Republicans.

While some viewed this as a much-needed reconfiguring of government, others viewed this as overreach.

Consequently, leading to protests and several lawsuits.

Timing of Departure

Allegedly, Musk has been told it will come at or around the completion of his 130 days as a special government employee.

Evidently, which will end in late May or early June. While Trump and Musk mutually settled on the date of resignation, no resignations have been made.

Subsequently, the move will allow Musk to divert his full-time attention back to his businesses (particularly Tesla).

Particularly because it is in a loss position for the first time in its history.

Clearly, some believe it is due to the economy. On the other hand, some crew suggest it is an effort to get an insurance reimbursement from the state of California.

Response from the Administration and Public

Subsequently, The responses to Musk’s announced exit from the White House office are mixed among the Trump administration.

Whereas President Trump has expressed satisfaction at Musk’s work, noting that “I think he’s great, but I also think he’s got a big company to run”.

Allegedly, several Cabinet members have shared exasperation regarding Musk’s unilateral authority.

In order to make spending decisions that may, or may not, be politically advisable.

Additionally, public response is also mixed, with some recent polling showing over half of voters feel like Musk’s projects with DOGE have harmed the country.

Looking Ahead: DOGE and Musk

The Department of Government Efficiency, which encompasses DOGE, is set to sunset on July 4, 2026.

Although Musk will officially end his current position, conversations are beginning. Evidently, about whether DOGE can continue work subsequently, although officials were “not sure” whether it would be a formal position.

A source within the White House noted that Musk may advise if necessary, although it’s hard to know in what capacity.

Under Musk, DOGE has represented some of the most significant transformations of the federal government in decades.
