Delhi Rings in 2025 with Festive Chaos: Traffic Jams and Packed Metro Stations

New Delhi, January 1, 2025-Delhiites faced heavy traffic disruptions and crowded public transport as the capital was celebrating the New Year with a large number of crowds gathering at major hotspots like India Gate and Connaught Place.


Traffic Snarls across the City

New Year Day saw extreme traffic congestion in Delhi, especially around popular landmarks and religious sites. Mass gatherings occurred at the C-Hexagon of India Gate, causing snarls on Kartavya Path, followed by other landmarks, which drew huge crowds, including Bangla Sahib Gurdwara, Prachin Hanuman Mandir at Connaught Place, Akshardham Mandir, Jhandewalan Mandir, Khatu Shyam Mandir on GT Road, and Jagannath Temple in South Delhi.

Traffic Police indicated vehicles were crawling in Jhandewalan, GT Road at Alipur, and Paharganj Chowk. In order to ease the situation, police personnel were deployed across 11 roads on the C-Hexagon of India Gate.

Auto-rickshaws were barred from parking in the area, along with an advisory that would allow visitors to stay on the India Gate station itself to keep the traffic scene from worsening.

Public Opinion and Experience

Despite an excessively crowded atmosphere, thousands squeezed into their space in handling prayers and ushering in the New Year. Deepali Verma of North Delhi visited Hanuman Mandir with family to seek blessings, wishing peace and prosperity for all in this New Year.

Visitors generally accepted “frustration” while in line; Kajal reported waiting an hour to get into Qutub Minar, noting that attractions saw overwhelming crowds.

Authorities’ Response and Advisories

Delhi Police, knowing the New Year celebrations ahead of time, made proper adjustments to rearranging luggish traffic congestion, especially in the key central parts of the city. In spite of these arrangements, visibilities had their qouts owing to the umblems managing an exploding population.
