New Delhi – March 4, 2025 – A 24-year-old Deepak, alleged to be involved in a string of 17 burglaries and house thefts within a month to fund his drug addiction, was apprehended by Delhi Police. The arrest highlights the fighting back of law-enforcement against the numerous challenges property crimes related to drug abuse pose.
The Arrest and Seizures
On Monday, the police had caught Deepak with an address in Janakpuri on the basis of intelligence received, and they seized a large number of stolen articles from his possession, including gold jewelry, a scooter, a gas cylinder, three mobile phones, and other valuables. It is believed that these recoveries are connected with the series of burglaries that he allegedly committed in the Dwarka region.
Details of the Crimes
The first crime was reported on February 17 by Ahemed, a resident of Chanakya Place, who reported that a burglar entered his house through the window at about 5:30 pm and stole gold and silver jewelry with cash. This was one of the 17 burglaries and housebreakings Deepak is alleged to have committed during a one-month-long crime spree.
Modus Operandi
Deepak would take stock of the situation and look for houses that appeared vacant at certain hours, especially between 3 pm and 5 pm. He would gain entry through windows and/or any other weak points that could allow direct access without attracting notice. The valuables would then be sold off almost immediately, as Deepak allegedly needed the money to feed his drug habit.

Police investigation and strategy
Delhi police strengthened patrolling and surveillance in the Dwarka division in response to the rise in the number of burglary cases. They thoroughly analyzed the pattern and timings of the instances notified to them, leading them to suspect that an individual person might be responsible for two or more thefts. The first lead from informers was about Deepak which eventually nailed him down.
Challenges posed by drug-related crimes
By now, one can see that the issue of drug-related crimes is an even wider one. An addicted individual often resorts to crimes such as theft and burglary to fund narcotic purchases. Alternatively, such criminal acts impose major burdens upon law enforcement, community safety concerns, and rehabilitation efforts.
Community impact and response
Residents of Dwarka are happy for the arrest of Deepak. The burglaries were, by their sheer numbers, threatening to open the area to fear and panic. Local resident Sunita Sharma says, “We are now relieved that the man has been arrested, but we lived in fear all along, not knowing whose house would be attacked next.”
Police statement
Speaking to the media, Deputy Commissioner of Police Ankit Singh stated, “Deepak’s arrest is a major achievement of our ongoing related work to curb the rise of property crimes in the area. We urge citizens to maintain vigilance and report any suspicious activity to us to help keep law and order in the community.”
Ongoing criminal process
Deepak has been charged with numerous counts of burglary and theft. He is in detention, and the police are still investigating to determine whether he is tied to other open cases within the region. The police are asking what channels might have been used to sell the stolen goods so they can set up another call to destroy its removal.
