Delhi BJP’s ₹500 LPG Cylinder Promise: A Boost for Poor Women in Assembly Polls

New Delhi, January 17, 2025 — The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled its ‘Sankalp Patra’ manifesto for the Delhi Assembly elections, focusing on the welfare of women, senior citizens, and the poorer sections of society. Union Minister and BJP National President Jagat Prakash Nadda announced the manifesto.

Financial Assistance for Women: The Scheme of Subsidized LPG Cylinders

The principal thrust in the manifesto is reservation of financial assistance for women under the ‘Mahila Samridhi Yojana,’ under which they would be paid a sum of ₹2,500 per month. This proposal is for greater economic independence for women in the entire capital.

Furthermore, subsidized LPG cylinders would be provided at ₹500 to women who belong to the economically weaker sections. To help reduce the households’ burden, one free cylinder will be distributed on Holi and Diwali.

Support for Pregnant Women: Matru Suraksha Vandana

The ‘Matru Suraksha Vandana’ scheme would provide each pregnant woman of Delhi with a direct cash transfer of ₹21,000. This initiative is intended for maternal health support, and expectant mothers will receive six kits of nutritious food to ensure sustenance during pregnancy.

Affordable Nourishment: Establishment of Atal Canteens in Slum Areas

To fulfill the nutritional needs in economically disadvantaged communities, the BJP will establish ‘Atal Canteens’ in slum clusters and JJ colonies. The canteens will provide nutritious food for a nominal amount of ₹5, so everyone, including the poorest of the poor, can eat a healthy meal.

Better Pension for Senior Citizens

The manifesto mentions an increase in pension for senior citizens. With this change, the monthly pension for aged people between 60 and 70 years old will be increased from ₹2,000 to ₹2,500, while those over 70 years old, as well as widows or destitute women, will now receive pensions of ₹3,000 per month. The projected initiative will provide a safety net for the older section of the society in Delhi.

Health Initiatives: Implementation of Ayushman Bharat Scheme

The BJP has pledged to fully execute Ayushman Bharat scheme in Delhi, which will provide subsequent health coverage of ₹5 lakh per family to nearly 51 lakh people. Furthermore, the Delhi government will provide an extra health cover of ₹5 lakh, summing the family health insurance coverage to ₹10 lakh.

Recommitment to Existing Programs

Stressing continuity and tropes of improvement, JP Nadda said all current public welfare schemes would not only continue but also be far more efficient and effective. He assured that no corruption would be tolerated, with every ongoing investigation into any other kind of malpractice completed.

The Con in Ahemdabad

Other BJP attacks are also found in their manifesto on the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party government. Nadda has accused the AAP’s flagship ‘mohalla clinics’ of being corrupt, with some violations having been highlighted by fraudulent lab tests and a scam worth approximately ₹300 crore. He promised that, if the BJP comes to power, full investigations would be carried out into these allegations.

Election Schedule

The elections are scheduled for 5 February in Delhi, with the results to be known on 8 February. The BJP aims to get back to power in the capital after 27 years, having won only three and eight seats in the 2015 and 2020 assembly elections, respectively.

The Delhi Assembly elections manifesto of the BJP offers a well-rounded agenda which is committed to empowering women, supporting senior citizens, improving healthcare facilities, and combating corruption.

The party wishes to tap into the sentiments of the populace on all significant social and economic issues and position itself as a harbinger of change and development for the national capital.
