CBI Ends Sushant Singh Rajput Case, Rules Out Foul Play

Mumbai, March 23, 2025 – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has officially concluded its inquiry into the death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, ruling out foul play. 

This conclusion comes nearly five years after the actor’s untimely death. Thereby, bringing closure to a case that gripped the nation and fuelled much discussion. 

Investigation Summary

Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his apartment in Bandra in Mumbai on June 14, 2020. 

The Mumbai Police investigated the case and found no evidence of foul play. Later, upon his father K.K. Singh’s complaint of abetment to suicide against actress Rhea Chakraborty, the Bihar Police filed a case. 

The CBI was then asked to take over the investigation for independence and thoroughness. 

CBI Findings

After a thorough investigation spanning several years the CBI submitted its closure report to a special court in Mumbai. 

The agency said it found no evidence of poisoning or strangulation or any other foul play in Rajput’s death. 

Forensic experts from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) also provided an opinion. Conclusing, that poisoning and strangulation could be ruled out. 

The CBI’s findings align with the Mumbai Police’s first investigation. It underscores the conclusion that the death of Rajput was a suicide.

Effects for the Accused

The conclusion of the matter has implications for all of the accused during the investigation. 

Rhea Chakraborty, who faced both media scrutiny and legal action while under investigation, has been cleared of all charges. 

Chakraborty’s attorney, Senior Advocate Satish Maneshinde, said in a statement, “I laud Rhea Chakraborty, her mother and father, and their quiet strength for the last 27 months.”

The CBI also examined the death of Disha Salian, Rajput’s former manager, who died a few days prior to him.

The agency determined Salian’s death was accidental, and it found no intersection between either case. 

This put to rest conspiracy-driven theories about a connection between the two deaths.
