On the 16th anniversary of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, Indian PM Narendra Modi warned terror groups about India’s relentless stance against terrorism.
The attacks killed 166 and injured more than 300, and are a dark reminder of global terrorism. Modi pointed out that a pledge was made to never allow such dastardly acts in the national psyche.
In his speech, PM Modi called on the international community to collectively combat terrorism and hold the perpetrators accountable.
He noted India’s determination for better internal security while highlighting the need for international cooperation in dismantling terror networks.
Vietnam also praised the courage of the security forces and civilians who fought the tragedy, ensuring that their sacrifices shall be always remembered.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar voiced the same sentiment of a lack of sufficient action against the masterminds behind the attacks.
Jaishankar reiterated his demand for accountability and called out Pakistan for having allegedly harbored the attackers who hit Mumbai back on November 26.
India Stands With The U.S. Against Terrorism
Once again, on this very somber occasion, the United States reaffirmed its solidarity with India in condemning terrorism in all its forms.
In the statement issued by the U.S. State Department, there was a call for justice for the countless victims and emphasis placed upon working in concert to expunge any safe havens for perpetrators of terrorism.
This platform further strengthens the Indo-U.S. strategic partnership in counterterrorism.
The Global Response
In honor of the victims, countries all over the world, starting from Australia to Canada, have recognized the necessity of unified action against terrorism.
India has time and again urged the designation of those terror suspects involved in the 26/11 attacks under United Nations sanctions, reiterating the case for curbing cross-border terrorism.
Terrorist incidents were commemorated during memorials throughout India, including one at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai.
Families of victims and survivors shared their solemn stories to keep memories of their loved ones alive.
This has been this year’s reminder on the need to remain vigilant and united with the world against terrorism, the warning of PM Modi to terrorist groups thus galvanizing India’s resolve not only to protect its citizens but also to make a safer world.
PM Modi emphasized that India’s war against terrorism goes out of the borders, and called upon countries to dismantle the support system for terror.
He also pointed out the absence of accountability for the 26/11 masterminds who remain unpunished despite global evidence against them.
This anniversary is a reminder to re-address international partnerships for justice and peace while ensuring victims’ sacrifices are remembered and honored.
