IPL 2025 Auction: KL Rahul Joins DC for INR 14 Crore as Pant and Iyer Shatter Records

The 2025 IPL auction – a banger of the beginning was KL Rahul, one of the biggest names of the day, signed by Delhi Capitals (DC), for a staggering INR 14 crore.

The historic bidding wars that have ensued earlier in the 2025 auction, with Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant setting the ball rolling and showcasing franchises’ readiness to spend big bucks on both already proven talents and potential superstars.

The Big Move by Rahul to DC

DC got in KL Rahul, the other big move of day one, symbolising a major strategic buy for the franchise. Rahul’s ability to lead by example and be consistently performing in the IPL Tamil would be a big boost to the top order and organisation in DC.

The bidding spat was a clear sign of how valuable he had been in the league; DC can just slide past the other contenders to rope him at a seriously huge price tag.

Historic Moments Before the Break

Before things opened up for the break in bidding, it had turned out to be a day of cherishable milestones.

Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer made some milestone bids nowhere seen in candid history, thereby setting a clear standard for what is likely to be one of IPL’s biggest auction events.

Even if the exact figures remain to be made clear in the public domain, consistent sources claim that both these have pretty well established new records for player salaries.

Crucial revamps

Overseas talent on demand: Au-talian pacers Jhye Richardson and Spencer Johnson landed lucrative deals, Richardson joining DC at INR 5 crore and Johnson heading to Gujarat Titans at INR 10 crore.

Budget buys and missed chances: While big names made for a big headline, there were unsold players that caught many a surprise. For one thing, Kyle Jamieson, once among the hot picks in earlier auctions, went begging in this auction.

Teams pursue strategy: A lot of franchises including Punjab Kings (PBKS) went for relatively budget-friendly picks, landing several players at base prices while reportedly erring in one instance behind the auctioneer.

With teams returning after the break, prospects will change towards buying younger talent to strengthen the middle and lower orders.

Uncapped Indian players and underdog overseas players can become the next instant success stories out of the ongoing auction.

IPL 2025 is more than just the auctioning of star players; it is a platform for the home-grown talent and others coveted for strategic purposes.

Most likely, franchises will be going for something that ardently maintains a balance between youth and experience in acquiring uncapped players.

An example is Sumit Kumar, an uncapped player bought by the Delhi Capitals at INR 1 crore.

While marquee players have been acquired at a base price, indicative of a mixed strategy with which teams have previously bid, surprises and bidding wars will come in the second half of the auction when every franchise applies itself to plug certain gaps on the roster.
