The people of Dahod, Gujarat, are in shock after a 6-year-old tribal girl was subjected to a horrific crime by her school principal. Governor Natt, the accused, allegedly abducted the young girl from her own home, attempted to sexually assault her, and ultimately murdered her when she bravely resisted.
The investigative authorities have uncovered critical details about the story. The principal’s alibi did not match with the evidence provided during the investigation and contradictions with the phone location data provided by the principal contrasted with his claim. After being interrogated for more than six hours, the accused confessed to the heinous crime he committed against the young girl and shared the chilling details of her death to investigators.
Legal action initiated to bring accountability has now been taken using the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. These proceedings are only just beginning to provide justice for the young girl and the perpetrator will be brought to justice for his transgressions.
The Government responded to the event, with State Education Minister Kuber Dindor stating in public, “we feel terribly troubled as a society. We have suffered a tremendous loss, and I personally believe that the State should take strong measures to prevent such incidents in the future.” As the Government of Gujarat and Dahod address the horror of this crime, local Congress party first claimed the principal should be tried by Law. this then blossomed into an allegation that Governor Natt was connected with the affiliated government and began identifying him as an affiliate of the RSS/VHP sect.
The community grapples with grief and outrage over this senseless loss, and the call for Justice echoes loudly. Accountability for justice and fair trials in kidnapping and murder cases are warranted in Dahod and across the Nation, as all gathers to grieve and want closure to ensure in the future this lesson will not be forgotten concerning what happened to the young girl.
This tragic event reminds us, with exceptional urgency, that we need more effective and stricter measures, safeguards, and oversight regarding to our children and the values of safety and security in our schools.
