Encounter Breaks Out Between Security Forces and Terrorists in J&K’s Kathua

On the evening of March 23, 2025, a fierce battle ensued between security forces and rebels in the Sanyal village. This happened in the Hiranagar sector in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district. 

Following reliable inputs regarding armed militants an operation was launched. Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Indian Army, and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) intiated it in the area that borders international territory close to the forested area. 

Beginning of the encounter

The operation began after reports of suspicious movements in the area. 

As security officials made their way further into the woods, contact was established with a group of militants. It ranged from two to five, who were geared heavily in arms. 

The situation deteriorated quickly, and intense fires were exchanged. 

Reinforcements and Operations Underway

In reaction to the encounter, more security forces were dispatched in the area to prevent terrorists from being able to escape. 

The operation continues to be active with intermittent gunfire being heard while the security officials work to neutralize the threat. 

The operation has faced difficulties due to the terrain and the cover provided by the forests necessitated close coordination among the forces involved.

This incident comes after a few recent security operations in Jammu and Kashmir. 

On March 17, security forces carried out a gunfight against terrorists in Zachaldara in the Kupwara district. They killed a terrorist whose identity is yet to be established. 

Furthermore, on March 22, in a wooded area of Doda district, a terrorist hideout was uncovered. Security forces discovered arms and ammunition. 

Heightened Vigilance Along the International Border

The current encounter and recent intelligence inputs of possible infiltration attempts. The Border Security Force (BSF) stepped up its alert along the International Border in Jammu. 

Forward posts have been ordered to stay at its highest alert level to prevent an infiltration of terrorists. In order to maintain safety and security for the border area.

The local community in the Hiranagar sector is advised they should stay at home. During this increased security activities and be cautious. 

Authorities have mentioned that they will need support from the community in reporting any suspicious activities. Therefore, they can resolve the situation as quickly as possible. 

Schools and public places in proximity have also been temporarily closed out of angle for the safety of those in the local communities.
