Amit Shah Orders ‘Ruthless’ Crackdown on Interstate Gangs and Illegal Immigrants in Delhi

New Delhi—a strong decision has been taken for strengthening the capital’s security umbrella, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah ordering Jersey police to wage a hard hit against interstate criminals gangs and illegal immigrants inhabiting the city. This was during a high-level law and order review meeting that took place on February 28, 2025, which had in attendance senior officers of the Delhi Police and Ministry of Home Affairs.

Focus on Interstate Gangs

While addressing the influx of interstate gangs in and around Delhi, Shah stressed the need for a zero-tolerance approach. He directed the Delhi police to immediately put into action all measures for the complete dismantling of these networks involved in a range of criminal activities, from drug trafficking to armed robberies and racketeering.

He stressed the need for close collaboration with law enforcement agencies and maintained that by ensuring the Delhi police and the law enforcement agencies in neighboring states work together, the commission of these crimes could be curtailed.

Action Against Illegal Immigrants

After deiating a large part on illegitimate immigration, Shah became a little incensed at the way illegal immigrants, mostly from Benghladesh and Myanmar, are settling in the city and mushrooming needlessly in criminal activities.

To investigate and act against the networks that allow the illegal immigrants to settle, he handed orders to the Delhi Police. He called for the immediate identification and deportation of all illegal immigrants.

Putting into Effect More Stringent Measures to Protect Women and Children

Another critical matter of discussion concerned the security of women and children, particularly in JJ clusters. Shah ordered the Delhi Police immediately to initiate improved measures in these vulnerable areas.

He suggested increasing patrolling, ensuring adequate street lighting, and setting up community policing initiatives to instill a sense of security in residents. The Home Minister also stressed the necessity of awareness campaigns to educate women and children about safety protocols and emergency contacts available to assist them.

Accountability and Performance Monitoring

There should be accountability on the part of the police for the effective implementation of these directives regarding people and the forces concerned. Shah asked for strict action against police stations and police officers who rendered themselves ineffective.

Regular performance assessment reviews should be put in place with local public feedback mechanisms. The DCPs were ordered to hold public hearings regarding the grievances of citizens directly in order to build trust and transparency between law enforcement and the community.

Drugs Prevention Initiatives

The spread of narcotics within the city was a pressing concern. Shah directed the Delhi Police to adapt a multi-layered counter-narcotic policy but, at the same time, an approach to apprehend all drug suppliers and narcotics peddlers from street-side sellers to big-time suppliers. Furthermore, he stressed the necessity of community involvement and awareness programs to prevent drug abuse among the youth.

The directives of the Home Minister convey a multifaceted plan to improve law and order in Delhi. The government seeks to establish a safer, more secure environment for all residents by focusing on equal eradication of interstate gangs, stringent approaches to dealing with illegal immigrants, putting in place security measures for the vulnerable, ensuring police accountability, and setting up strict narcotics control policies.
