Hyderabad, India – January 23, 2025
A horrible incident has sent waves. A former soldier is arrested for the murder of his wife, dismembering her body, and trying to dispose of it through boiling.
On January 22, 2025, an odorous complaint was given to the police. The couple was reported to have a foul odor emanating from their residence in the Malkajgiri area.
The Incident
Police say 45-year-old Ramesh Kumar and his wife, Sangeeta, 38, quarreled that night from January 20 into the early hours of January 21, and during the quarrel, Kumar allegedly strangled Sangeeta to death.
To cover-up the murder, he allegedly dismembered the body and boiled the parts to destroy any possible evidence.
Discovery and Arrest
The neighbors became suspicious when that foul odor lingered and Sangeeta was inexplicably missing.
Following a complaint, the local police decided to check on the welfare of the residents, and, horrifyingly, found Sangeeta’s dismembered and partially boiled remains in the kitchen. Kumar was promptly taken into custody without a fight.
Police Investigation
During questioning, Kumar confessed to committing the crime, adding that a series of disputes in the house had only driven the strain between the couple.
He even mentions having planned the entire murder subsequent to yet another fight. The police have registered a case against Kumar under the Indian Penal Code, Sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence).
Further investigation is ongoing to determine if there were prior incidents of domestic violence or if Kumar had accomplices in the commission of this crime.
Community Reaction
The gruesome character of the crime has shocked the local community. Neighbors describe the couple as usually being introverted and appearing to be free of any home disagreements.
“Never did I think that such a thing would happen in our neighborhood. What a fright!”said one neighbor who sought anonymity.
Psychologist says such extreme actions stem from unresolved anger, mental illness, or a history of violence in the home.
Dr. Meera Sharma, clinical psychologist, stresses the importance of getting professional help in situations of troubled marriage.
“When a couple suffers in silence, it can have deadly consequences. Counseling and therapy provide coping mechanisms or conflict resolution strategies,” she said.
Kumar was produced before the magistrate on January 23 and has been placed in judicial custody.
Experts in the law believe that the trial will not go long in response to the seriousness of the crime involved and the degree of evidence against him. If found guilty, Kumar could be handed a life term or sentenced to death by Indian law.

Domestic Violence Front
The incident has ignited fresh debates on domestic violence in India. Reports from the National Crime Records Bureau show a substantial increase in domestic violence cases in recent years.
The activists call for systemic changes, stronger support systems, and increased awareness programs for victims to seek help before situations turn tragic.
The brutal murder of Sangeeta Kumar, reportedly at the hands of her husband, is a chilling reminder of the tragedy domestic conflicts can lead to.
It highlights a dire need for mental health access and timely intervention to ensure that similar horrific incidents do not occur in the future.
