PM Modi Flags Off Delhi Metro Phase IV, Lays Foundation for Rithala-Kundli Link

Delhi, January 5, 2025-Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the first sections of Phase IV of the Delhi Metro, representing a major boost to the public transport system in Delhi.

The newly opened 2.8-kilometer stretch extends the Magenta Line from Janakpuri West to Krishna Park Extension, further enhancing the connectivity for the people of West Delhi.

The launch ceremony took place at the Janakpuri West station, during which PM Modi spoke about the commitment of the government towards improving urban mobility. This extension, built at an estimated cost of ₹1,200 crore, is the first operational section of Phase IV, which is being delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, the passenger services on this section commenced at 3 PM.

Enhanced Connectivity

With its extension to the Krishna Park Extension station, the Magenta Line spans approximately 40 kilometers from Botanical Garden to Janakpuri West.

It shall ease congestion and provide a commuting option for residents in Krishna Park, Vikaspuri, and Janakpuri. Initially, train intervals for this new section will be 16 minutes.

Future Expansions

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has planned the extension of the Magenta Line to RK Ashram Marg and aims to complete it by 2026. This extended corridor will provide connectivity across every part of the city, integrating multiple metro lines and allowing residents to commute more easily within Delhi.

Rithala-Kundli Corridor

Besides opening the extension of the Magenta Line, Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone for the Rithala-Kundli corridor, which runs 26.5 kilometers long and will be a major part of Delhi Metro’s Phase IV.

With an estimated budget of ₹6,230 crore, it will connect Delhi via regions like Rohini, Bawana, and Narela to Nathupur in Haryana. The project is expected, in turn, to bolster regional connectivity between Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh and thereby scale growth and development in the areas.

PM Modi spoke at a public rally in Rohini, post-inauguration of new projects. He reinforced the government’s commitment to infrastructure development and urban mobility, saying: “The expanded network of Delhi Metro is a testament to our commitment towards providing efficient and accessible means of public transportation to every citizen. The projects will not only save time but also help to economically develop the region.”

Unity and Cooperation

These projects go on to show that the cooperation between the central and local government is formidable. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of Delhi spoke about this cooperation by stating that joint efforts are extremely important for the development of the city.
